Diversity, equity & inclusion (DEI)
Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) has been a key focus at Horizontal from the beginning. As a minority-owned business certified by the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), we take great pride in being a welcoming home for our employees, clients, candidates and vendors. We strive to create an environment where everyone feels respected and empowered when they come to work, and as a professional services firm, we are devoted to helping companies hire talented employees from all backgrounds.
Our internal DEI efforts
DEI committee
In January 2023, we launched our first-ever DEI committee to encourage education, conversation and reflection about social issues.
Better Together
Our DEI committee hosts monthly “Better Together” meetings, with themes such as Black history, pride, women’s equality and honoring veterans.
Employee resource groups
We have 4 ERGs (women, LGBTQ+, veterans and people of culture), and we continually connect with employees to determine additional ERGs to launch.
Employee education
Employees have access to training with The Diversity Movement, and our HR team and DEI committee host sessions on mental health, pronouns and more.

MBE certified from NMSDC
For over 10 years, Horizontal has held the gold-standard MBE certification from the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC).
Job board utilization
To further support our clients’ commitment to hiring diverse talent, we post our jobs on specialized niche job boards to reach a more diverse audience.
Organization involvement
Current diverse partners include WLiT, AnitaB.org, WBENC, USPAAC, WomenHack, DFW MSDC and NMSDC, and we are always looking for new partners to work with.
Reducing bias & barriers
We evaluate and implement tools to remove unconscious bias within interviews and skill-based assessments as well as AI-powered conversational bots to remove barriers.

Kuala Lampur, Malaysia
In alignment with SDG #4, our Malaysia team donated time, crafts and toys to students at Trinity Children's Home.
Chicago, U.S.A.
In alignment with SDG #11, our Chicago staffing team organized clothes for those in need in partnership with Connections for the Homeless.
Minneapolis, U.S.A.
In alignment with SDG #2, the Minneapolis staffing team packed more than 200 boxes of apples at Second Harvest Heartland.
Bengaluru, India
In alignment with SDG #4, the Bengaluru team distributed school uniforms and shoes to students at Sree Siddaganga Rural High School.
